There should not be conflicts. It is just that one probably does not want
two instant messengers, two picture viewers, two PDF readers, two e-mail
clients, two calculators, two video players, two music players, etc.
Installing the "gnome" package on Trisquel (not NetInstall), one indeed ends
up with two programs for most tasks: the GNOME program and the program in the
default system.
