The desktop icon does nothing, expectedly.
In Mate, synaptic-pkexec in a terminal triggers the password prompt which
grants me admin privileges, same as clicking on the desktop icon.
NB: executing (Alt+F2) synaptic launches synaptic without privileges, in both
environments.
