Just one question:

If you change the .bui file directly by text editor (or GenOpt), will Type 56
realize that the .trn file containing the transfer functions of the walls is
not up to date anymore and recalculate them? If it doesn't you might have a
problem with this approach.

Subject: Re: [TRNSYS-users] type 56 with TrnOpt

Gilles,

As Jeff says, Genopt will allow you to optimise parameters within Type56 if you
skip TRNOpt. Genopt is very flexible and allows you to optimize parameters in
several different input files, e.g. the TRNSYS input file
(DCK) and the building file (BUI). And TRNSYS version 16 automatically calls
TRNBuild at the beginning of the simulation to refresh the pre-processed
building data files (BLD and TRN) using the latest version of the BUI file, so
any change in the BUI file will automatically be used in the simulation.

I will send you off list a working example that might help you tweaking the
Genopt configuration files and the TRNSYS input files. The example also shows
how to use equations with parameters in Genopt (e.g. you might optimise a
window height but you need to write the window and wall areas in the BUI) -
another thing you cannot do in TRNOpt as far as I know. If anyone is
interested, just let me know.

Using TRNOpt would of course be much more convenient... A new feature for the
TESS libs V3?
