I understand and think that cursor change is not very good idea...

Its good question. When I'm composing new email and every 30s I see
cursor change it is 1) annoying and hard to write + think about new
email and 2) for me (and probably) other users looks like some error...

Maybe move it just to status bar area? Or disable totally any events
when checking count of unread messages in all folders?

Yes, it is about updating number of unread emails for all folders (not
only current one which is handled by IMAP IDLE).
