Listen to rowsInserted() and check if the QModelIndex of the message's root has any children.
Right now, it's a one-time process and the structure of the entire MIME tree is prepared in one go. In future, this will change when the proxy models for encrypted and/or signed messages are added -- check Stephan Platz' work on these if you're interested.
You should consider subscribing to the list, btw -- it's a pretty low-volume thing, and you will save us moderating your messages and having to remember to Cc you on replies.
