Dear Pru,

it is my perception that the whole "Scientology vs other 'technologies'" is
a fairly 'charged' subject (i.e. it has the potential to annoy, upset or
generally
stir things up in a not-so-good way).

I feel that raising that particular subject (and it has been raised many times
in the past
in many different forms) can either turn into a somewhat intellectual exercise
with little real
value (which is quite harmless), or it can turn into a heated debate that may
cause division,
annoyance and disgruntlement among those who discuss it (which is not quite
that harmless).

I'm afraid the discussion you started the other day happened to fall into the
latter category.
I hope that will explain why some members have reacted the way they did. They
have
a valid point. So do you. But sometimes it's not worth it to push forward a
topic like
this one ("Scientology vs other technologies"): the potential stir, annoyance
and upsets
that it might cause stand in no correlation to the benefits that can be gained
from such a
discussion. In other words, there's more to lose than to gain.

I must say, though, that I was a little disappointed by your rant with regards
to the list.
Yes, maybe this isn't a high activity list with frequent posts, as you pointed
out - but
everybody goes at their own pace and chooses to communicate at their
convenience, when and
if they have something to say. And that's perfectly fine. I'm not complaning.
If I have to say something or ask something, I just post it, put it out there,
and I know that
within a day or so (usually faster) I'll get a response by some member; and
then another one will come
forth and contribute, and then another...and so on. Sometimes not all members
will respond - maybe a
particular discussion or topic doesn't interest them; so they don't bother
responding. And that's
totally all right - I do it too.

I'm not worried about the activity levels on the list; because I know that if I
need someone's help people will return from where ever they've been, post a
response, and the forum comes alive once more.
Why should anything be wrong with that?

That being said, and despite what's been said, I think you're a valuable
addition to the list, Pru.
You've brought a fresh breeze into the list when you first popped in to say hi.
And I'm glad you're
with us.

But keep in mind that some subjects/topics are particularly charged and that
there'll
be mixed feelings there; in which case, use good judgement and reason to decide
whether
it's worth starting it [topic], and, if you notice that it's causing too much
of a stir,
whether it's really worth pushing it through at all cost, in the name of
"honest enquiry".

Harry
