Dear ivy-subscribers,
Ron was a stickler for study and understanding words. He did at a
point talk about what was essential in a dictionary, and recommended
The World Book Dictionary. This has the etymology of a word, a
simple definition, or more if the word has various meanings, and a
sample of its use as well as grammatical data.
The Scientology tech dictionary was a great disappointment. Not many
simple definitions of words.
This was due to the fact that the makers of the dictionary were not
allowed to use their common sense and make up definitions, they had
to quote Ron. On occasions they could not find one, and (only then)
reference was made to Ron, who wrote a definition.
I have babbled on about the subject at greater length, with an good
alternative to the tech dictionary, at:

All best wishes,
Ant
