Hi Karalee Update on The Art of War.
Did i send you a copy of my annotated "The Art of War"? The art of war describes how to play the game of war which i find fascinating. I have now chanced on another interesting book "The Dictators Handbook" by Bruce Bueno de Mesquita which you can find here: https://www.amazon.com/Dictators-Handbook-Behavior-Almost-Politics-ebook/dp/B005GPSLHI/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1493590108&sr=1-1&keywords=the+dictator%27s+handbook In the art of war the general works for the King, dictator, president or whatever you want to call the leader. The Dictator's Handbook takes up how a person becomes the Leader, dictators or whatever and holds onto that position. We all live under some form of government and either want to become the leader or want to avoid getting stepped on by the government so knowing how the game is played by the government and what their goals are is to our advantage. This book is short and to the point in stating what the goals are of the leader and his supporters. Hint: the interest of the government is to get in control of the money and stay in power. The leader does this by having a small group of supporters who are loyal to the leader because he doles out the money and the general of the military is one of the essential supporters. In a country with mineral wealth the dictator controls the wealth and its revenues and ignores the citizens. The military keep the citizens from rising up in rebellion. In a country where the productivity of the civilians produce the wealth the leader will make sure there are roads and schools and hospitals to keep the workers working. Just enough to keep them working and no extras. Well... read the book to get the rest of the story but you can see where this is going from the above details. The author is cynical of governments but his description of the governments goals fits well with my 60 plus years of observation of governments in action.
