I'm probably not the first to notice that RealPlayer 8 is now available
for Linux. So I have released TRPlayer 2.0b2, which works with RealPlayer
8 and fixes a bug from 2.0b1. Is RealPlayer 7 still available from the
RealNetworks Web site? If not, then users might get TRPlayer 1.1.5, since
it's the current stable version, and find that they can't get a version of
RealPlayer that works with it. Should such users be forced to use a
"beta" release of TRPlayer, or should I release a new "stable" version
that supports RealPlayer 8? I don't want to do a final release of
TRPlayer 2.0 now because I haven't developed it enough since version 1.1.5
to call it 2.0. A version number of 1.2 would be more appropriate, but
the step backward in version numbering might be confusing. I'm sorry if
I've done a bad job with my version numbers; I'm still learning how to
manage a software project.

TRPlayer now has its own FTP directory,
"/pub/linux/goodies/trplayer". The files for TRPlayer 1.1.5 that were in
"/pub/linux/goodies" are now symbolic links to the appropriate files in
the trplayer directory. I will remove these symbolic links when I release
the next stable version of TRPlayer.

Starting with TRPlayer 2.0b2, the file naming scheme for the binary
distribution archive has changed. For example, we now have
"trplayer-2.0b2.i386-linux-gnu.tar.gz", to indicate that this is a binary
distribution of TRPlayer 2.0b2 for GNU/Linux systems running under the
i386 architecture. This will allow for ports of TRPlayer to other Unix
systems, such as Solaris and FreeBSD, and other processor types, such as
the DEC Alpha.
