I think most of your questions will be answered if you visit
trplayer's website:

There you can grab the latest version as well as find info and a link
to realnetworks where you can download realplayer.
You don't need X, that's the point of trplayer, it interfaces with
realplayer to allow you to decode Realnetworks' format directly from
the console.
