The dispute between Christian and Dave can be resolved easily: The original sampling rate is reflected in the resulting wav file. The slower the original sampling rate the samller the wav file. That is different from the bandwidth of the transmitted bitstream. Generally faster sampling rates require larger bandwidths, but there is some flexibility there. The compression ratio is the ratio between the original sampling rate and the bitstream bandwidth, and that ratio can vary quite a bit. In any event, the resulting wav file matches the original sound source, so the original sampling rate gets reflected in the size of the wav file produced by vsound on your system.
