I'd been having trouble with compiling trplayer in slack 10.0 due to a lack of _pure.o, part of gcc, but not part of the version of gcc I have: gcc-3.3.4.
But, with the help of Russell, I have a solution, though not the solution I'd hoped for. His suggestion was to install mplayer. While it's not trplayer, mplayer will play a RealAudio stream in the console (or X) without much trouble, so long as you have the direct path to the stream.
I'd still like to figure out what to do about the missing _pure.o. Trplayer is ~much~ smaller than mplayer, & I don't really have much interest in playing videos, but this will do for now.
