The waters are getting really muddy now. I don't think the quote Dave attributed to me was me either, but that is not material right now. Let me clarify some things. The Apocrypha which we were discussing are the 14 books written before the time of Christ. Primarily these were the Inter-Testament books, written between the time of Malachi and the time of John the Baptist. As far as I know, none of them speak about Jesus zapping people as a little child. I think Glenn is confusing the New Testament Apocryphal books, known as the pseudipigrapha, with the Old Testament Apocryphal books included in the Vulgate and hence many other Bibles. While many Bibles included the Apocryphal books, that does not mean that they were considered at the same level of inspiration as the other books. The Apocrypha was separated from the other books and kept as its own collection. Many Protestants feel that they never held status as Scripture. Others, like Roman Catholics, will argue that they did hold that authority, and they consider their inclusion in the Septuagint and Vulgate versions as strong evidence of that. They consider the 16th century Roman Catholic council which canonized some of the Apocryphal books as simply an affirmation of what had always been. Protestants generally view the council as adding the books to the Canon. When you understand the difference in perspective between Protestants and Roman Catholics concerning the authority of tradition, the dynamics of this debate become understandable. Peace be with you.
