Blainer) Report on a recent book acquisition: THE TURIN SHROUD: The illustrated Evidence, by Ian Wilson and Barrie Schwortz
1. The blood found on the Shroud of Turin was type AB, a common type found among Semitic peoples, but less common elsewhere. 2. The carbon-testing on the shroud indicates it was made between 1260 and 1390 AD (CE). However, a biofilm of bacteria was discovered coating the entire shroud. It has been shown that the biofilm was not successfully removed prior to dating. 3. Coins placed on the eyes of the figure bear the name Pontius Pilate. 4. Impressions of flowers on the shroud are local to the area near Jerusalem. 5. A burial cloth known as the Cloth of Edessa (a city in Turkey, now called Urfa) was described as being similar to the Turin Shroud. Reports of this cloth bearing a miraculous picture of Jesus were made as early as the reign of Edessa's King Abgar V (reigned 13-50 AD). 6. The image on the shroud is a negative image, so far unaccounted for by any explanation. 7. The image is of a man whose arms were originally raised above his head, but after rigormortis had set in, they had been forced into a position with hands folded across the loins, which were naked. The figure appears "frozen" in the position of a crucified victim. 8. All blood stains are as described in the NT--bleeding from hands, wrists, feet, forhead, and side is apparent.
