how long one can be under conviction and refuse to repent without God writing that person off That�s the Big Question!!! (I can think of a few that I wish He would have zapped a long time ago!)
What happens when God �writes them off�? Does He kill them, or just let them run around making other people unhappy for the rest of their natural lives? Possibly both. I know of one pastor who simply said "I cannot believe this any more and walked off the Job". Last I heard, he was still alive.
Here�s another question: When God turns someone over to a reprobate mind, is there still a chance for them to repent? Could it be a way of trying to get them to repent, by experiencing the full judgment of their depravity? Just do not know. If I ever had the answer, I have forgotten it. I would assume that when you become reprobate, you no longer yearn for spiritual things or relationships, and are given over to your lusts.
A related question is this: Does God bring the lost under judgment (ie: experiencing the penalty of their rebellion in order to try to get them to repent), or just Believers? The prisons are full of people who will testify to exactly that. I taught the Gospel of John at a local prison, and heard several men testify that it was God's love for them that caused them to be caught and punished, and they praised HIm for doing it.
Here�s another: Have you ever experienced God�s judgment? If so, how did you know it was His judgment? How did you repent? Were you glad it happened afterwards? Again, I am not sure. I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to picking up hints or clues, so God could give me the flu or a broken leg to tell me something, and unless the Holy Spirit spelled it out on the bathroom mirror while I was shaving, I probably would not get the message. I believe that the younger generation calls this "clueless".

I am not certain just what you are asking. There is a time that God turns some over to a reprobate mind, and there is a time for some to fall from grace, but God's desire is for us to finish the race, endure to the end. As to how long one can be under conviction and refuse to repent without God writing that person off, I have no idea, but I suspect that He is far more patient than me.
