Laura:
Myrtle is indeed a beautiful wood, but not too popular as a gunstock wood because it is not too stable ( tends to swell and shrink with the weather and humidity, causing pressure variations where the wood meets metal, and causing the rifle to shoot to one spot on a dry day, and another spot on a humid day)

Oregon probably has the most beautiful maple wood, either Quilted maple or fiddleback (tigerstripe).

I brought back a key chain made of myrtle from Oregon (which I lost!) but myrtle is beautiful wood.  I bet a gun would be beautiful!  Laura
