I could do the usual thing and discuss scripture, and etc., and  from that alone I have a testimony of the resurrection of the dead, by Jesus Christ as he conquered death on the cross.    But I was first converted to a belief in a conscious afterlife at elementary school age by none other than my mother and my grandfather,  as they related personal experiences to me.    I have since had experiences of my own.   Since they are personal, I prefer not to go into detail about them.
However, I recall a man in whom I had much confidence tell of his experience when he was very ill.  He said he was in bed and his spirit sat up (did not entirely leave his body),  looked around, then lay down again.  He said he was totally conscious, and has not feared death since.
Also, I once asked some kids in a jr. high school class if they had ever seen a ghost.  I asked this because it was the eve of Halloween, we had some time left at the end of class, and I thought it wouldn't hurt to spend a moment or too talking about such things.  I asked it half seriously and half in jest, but one boy, an eighth grader, the quietest and most serious kid in the class, shyly raised his hand, and related the following "ghost story"
He said he was at home,  and had gone to the door leading to the stairs going into the basement of his house.  He was about to go downstairs when he looked down at the foot of the stairs, and saw a pretty young woman dressed in blue.  She was walking/moving/gliding (?) across the room, but her feet did not touch the ground.   He said that her hair, skin,  etc, were all the same color of blue as her dress.
I later asked his mother at a parent conference about the story, and she said as far as she knew it was true, that she remembered him telling her about it.  His older sister was also in the school, and when I talked to her about it, she told me it had happened when she (the sister) was ill, and that she had seen the same (or similar) woman in her bedroom one night.
The mother told me she had asked an LDS Church authority what it might mean, and was told the ghost was a spirit who undoubtedly had been assigned to watch over and protect the family during a time of serious illness.
I definitely would not want to see this story "debated."  (:>)  Discussed is OK.
