SALT LAKE CITY -- Attorneys for the city argue it must protect street preachers from the Mormons they harangue regardless of whether they want the protection. The attorneys filed documents in U.S. District Court on Monday defending the city's decision to separate the preachers from those attending the annual conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

This is quite ridiculous. Why would people want to try to tear down other's beliefs instead of trying to make themselves better people? Well, let them do as they will......as long as they don't provoke fights or violence, they can waste their time.
As for me this year, I am going to protest the protestors. If you see people with shirts that say "I'm with stupid-ignorant-or biggot" thats me and or my friends.
We might also have signs that say "Get a life Protestors". If you see us, stop by, say hi, have a chat

I think that this whole thing is stupid. Protestors should just back off. LDS people don't want to hear all this crap that they have to say about our church or we wouldn't be AT conference. The protestors need to obey the city regulations as far as boundaries go. They can protest on regular streets, but when it gets to protesting on church grounds, then things are out of hand. If an LDS person hits a protestor, it should be the protestor's fault for provoking the person and feeding the fire. This isn't right and it needs to stop.

I am a Born Again Christian. I strongly oppose the street preachers. Jesus said we should speak in love to others. This is not love, this is hateful. I am embarrassed by this. No one appreciates anyone trying to change their religious views. I don't appreciate anyone, or any other religion trying to change my views. The Holy Spirit convicts and changes peoples hearts. Not people.

I cant even believe the protesters....
they choose to go stand and yell, curse, disrespect,
taunt, and just make fools of them selves, all the
while calling them selves servents of God.
Who do they think they will convert acting that way?
who do they think they will convert at conference...
dumb dumb dumb.
anyone who acts like they do are not God loving
Christians. They have love for no one.
I heard one of them saying The LDS church is just
"one" of their targets... how sad is that. what sad people.
and if they have no better way to preach, nothing better
to do with their time.... they are evil in my book- yes
strong words but its how i feel.
i tell them come knock on my door, then i could slam the
door in their face... any church should be free from
people standing out yelling at them. no matter the religion.
good christian people of all religions find this offencive.

You have it all wrong there. It's the protestors agitating the Mormons by defiling sacred garments. It's the protestors agitating the Mormons by calling the women whores and harlots. It's the protestors agitating the Mormons by telling them that they're all going to burn in hell for their beliefs.
It's funny that the government can't protect the Mormons from the verbal abuse of the protestors because of "free speech". What about the Mormons' freedom to gather and worship peacefully without being heckled, insulted and cursed at?

Since when is exercising my Constitional right to free speech MURDER. Verbal assults do not justify physical assults. You can protest the protester with just as much verbal banter as you want. Yes, you are a mormon with a small m. Mormons with a capital m are more tolerant and Christ like.

I find it all very interesting. It's like the devil himself and his followers finding a way to slither in where the multitudes of LDS members congregate, they find a way to be "allowed" and even "protected" while whispering doubts and misleading information to those who are trying to be righteous. We just need to be strong and face it and get through it.

I have not heard and cannot visualize Prophet Hinckley getting in a fight with a protester, even if it is over the most sacred garment we obtain at this time. Something may be said to the protester, and in such a way as to have great impact on the situation for the better.
I dislike these protesters as much as anyone else. They are doing it in much hatred, and that hatred should not be recieved by the passing people who are members of the church. Upon being baptized, and every week in Sacrement we take upon ourselves the name of The Holy One of Isreal. We must act accordingly. We are here to progress, listening to those twisted words of the protesters will not allow us to take in the spirit as deeply as we can if we avoid them. A qoute from a wise man; "I refuse to recieve the message".

If it were just "underwear" there wouldn't be a big deal, wave it around all you want. It has a very sacred meaning that you probably have no idea about as you have shown by your ignorant remark. They wave it because they know it will upset the people there at the conference.
I don't see any mormons standing at their churches protesting what they believe in. That's whats great about our country, we have religious freedom, so I guess it allows for ignorance and intollerance of others. These people need to get a life, do something constructive with their time, donate it to the local homeless shelters, or soup kitchens, somewhere where you can benefit others by doing an actual service.
Most of the time you can just laugh it off, but there are times when the protestors cross the line and they know it and do it on purpose. The city has given them a space to protest and yet they protest that spot because they will not be able to provoke as many people.
Shame on you and them!

How to Pray:
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I now invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as Lord and Savior. In Jesus' name. Amen.
This is the way to Heaven. I pray for the salvation of all people. Amen

Mr. "Streat Preacher",
Your name alone shows your ignorance. I have a daughter in kindergarten who at least knows how to spell STREET....!!!!!
As for the "preacher" part...that's the wrong word to use in your case. Most preachers teach of the love of Christ, regardless of their religion. You "preach" nothing but hate. There is not one ounce of Christian conduct in you.
I am not an LDS member, in fact I do not belong to any particular church, but I support their right to worship anyhow they please without the likes of you yelling your foul mouth off. I do not agree with all the LDS church teaches, but they are good people who want to raise their families in loving, Christ loving homes. I see nothing wrong with that. Much better than in your hate filled home.
Heaven help your children if you have any. They are being raised as hateful bigots. What a shame that they have you as such a bad example of what Christians are like. I only hope they grow up to be as ashamed of you as they should be.

This coming Saturday and Sunday go on down to North Temple Street and see the "Preach For filthy lucre" freak show put on by the street preachers and their Evangelical Protestant sponsorers. See why these people have crossed the boundary of preahing religion and have become entertainers as their heroes of yesteryear (circa 1987, 1988--"The Holy Wars") Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggert did. See why the IRS shoould take away the tax exempt status of any Evangelical Protestant sect that sponsors this scum and vilany, and why they are really entertaiment.
To all the street preachers and what I AND EVERY MORMON KNOWS IS YOUR MOTIVE:
2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

Again, we're letting extremists define the debate, and everyone else is guilty by association. A radical with an inferiority complex might like the idea of murdering heathens and proclaiming Utah for Mormons, and the vile and despicable street preachers might like the idea of making life more and more uncomfortable for non believers in this state. But, If we allow these extreme elements to stir up the passions of "us" vs. "them", then we'll create an environment that nobody will want to raise their children in.

The majority are sharing the gospel with LDS people they happen to care about.
The LDS do this and not all who share the LDS gospel are any better than the few at LDS conference.
