DaveH wote: If you do not believe the restitution of all things has anything to so with the LDS but you do believe it applies to something/someone else....then to whom do you believe restitution of all things has to do?
DaveH cited: Mal 4: 5-6 & Mt 17:10-13 & Acts 3:19-21 & Rev 14:6-7
I have not studied Elijah's role in restoring all things, but the Acts reference refers to the second coming of Christ, when He will restore things.
DAVEH: Why do you assume it is referring to Jesus' second coming, Perry?
It is NOT JS pulling the wool over the eyes of the spiritually hungry and vulnerable people of his day.
However, the point is that there is no logical connection between the verses you quote and the supposed LDS restoration.
DAVEH: They may not to you, but they sure seem logically connected from my LDS perspective.
It is just a convenient verse to latch onto as a prooftext.
DAVEH: I find that interesting, Perry. Instead of giving me reasons for you believing as you do (other than you don't like LDS theology, and I do understand that), you simply dismiss the restitution passage I offered as evidence with a possible mis conclusion (Jesus is going to restore all things at his second coming) and an accusation that I am prooftexting 4 passages. To me, that seems like you are avoiding discussing them and what they mean to you. I'd much rather hear how you interpret those passages. Do you believe they all apply to Jesus' second coming?
I can think of many other verses that have nothing whatsoever to do with the LDS, but the LDS latch onto them for convenience sake and ride them hard as prooftexts. There is NEVER any biblical or external evidence that they mean what the LDS say they do.
DAVEH: Yaaaaaaaaaaaawn. I understand that you feel that way, Perry. To me (and to LDS theology) those passages are very important, which is why I am curious to find out how Protestants understand them. I find it hard to believe Protestants simply sweep them under the rug. They must have some explanation for them. Just curious to find out what message you think they are conveying.
It is all circumstancial and convenient to use them. Read Hugh Nibley if you want to see great leaps and stretches in scripture twisting. He is a great story teller, and can stretch a tale all the way from Judah to Salt Lake City.
By the way, Jesus said that if your mule fell into a pit on the sabbath you would pull it out, so that is proof that Alice in Wonderland was true! She followed (fell) a rabbit (mule) into a hole (pit) to "pull it out"! The symbolism is all in place, so it must be true!
