Where do you get this "administrative concept"
John? From the Bible or from mens doctrine?
Every website Jonathan has posted so far has a certain
spin that explains away the truth. The word visit in Hebrew Paqad means "to visit with friendly OR
hostile intent" One of Jonathan's theologians claims that God only
ever visits with love and mercy because of His covenant responsibility.
However, this is not born out in the lives of those who have gone before
us and we are warned under the new administration that "These things
were written for our learning (Rom 15:4) so that we will not
follow their example (1 Cor 10:5,6) - but then if you want to you can
always find someone to teach you a doctrine with a dispensational or other
argument to explain this away if you find it too hard so that God has to
keep His covenant responsibility while we get relieved from
ours.
Actually being visited by the "iniquity of the fathers"
goes back to the 10 Commandments. It is first mentioned in Ex 20:5, then on the
2nd tables of stone in Ex 34:7; at the rebellion in Num 14:18, and when Moses
reiterates the Ten Suggestions? again in Deut 5:9. It has
to do with God's jealousy and his people bowing to idols.
Please don't be deceived by some of the arguments
proferred against the truth because we can see the consequences of ignoring
God's warning with Korah and family (Num 16:31) and Achan and family (Josh
7:24). As for the New Administration, it does not change God's character
or his standards. Rather, because of the cross we have been given a heart
to know the truth and power to overcome. "To whom much is given, much is
required" (in God's economy).

Actually, the person of God never changes but His administration does. Obviously. For example -- the fact that His original covenant is replaced by a new covenants has everything to do with administration and nothing to do with the existence and/or personality of God. I don't think the word
"visit" has the meaning you have in mind, but be that as it may,
this is an administrative decision. John [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: God Himself says that the sins of the fathers are visited upon the children unto the 4th and sometimes the 10th generation.
When did His personality change?
