Calvin did and some of his teaching was right on.  There were those who preached for "gain" (I don't have the biblical reference in mind) but their message was acceptable. The last thing I have time for is a moral investigation of those writers who sit on my shelf.  But, I must admit, if something comes to light and speaks directly to qualifications as a writer on that particular subject, I ignore them.   Example  -- Nixon's views on foreign affairs can be meaningful reading.   Nixon's views on morality and honesty would have to be joke (speaking personally.)
