You mention below that God says that David was

do you understand the passage in 1 Chronicles
21:1-30 (parallelled in 2 Samuel 24:1-25) regarding
David's sin of numbering the people? How do you
incorporate this 'sin' with the matter of Uriah?
I do not see the parallel between them. If they are
indeed distinct I believe you will find that it is just
you (and not God) that thinks that David only sinned
in the matter of Uriah.

Good question, Jonathan, but I'm a little put off by your last comment here. It seems to me that you were offended by a comment that I made in an earlier post. I hope that you understand that I do not think that every viewpoint that I have is from God. There are some matters which God has instructed me on that came directly from him and not necessarily any study on my part. Other matters I study out like everyone else and express my opinion as one who is faithful in these things. Please do not confuse the two.

I was pointing out a Biblical text which read:

1 Kings 15:5
(5) Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

I was asking for this text to be kept in mind. Somehow this text was dropped and only my words are quoted. I would prefer for you to quote the Biblical text and discuss it. The Biblical Words are important, not my words.

Reconciling this passage with the example you bring up is challenging. Given the current tension between individuals here, I'm not sure I could do a good job right now. If it is ok, let me just point out a few things for you to consider:

1. What exactly was wrong with David numbering the soldiers? What commandment of God was being transgressed?

2. Who moved David to number the soldiers? One text says Satan, and another says that it was Yahweh.

Peace be with you.
David Miller.
