David, your explanation on liberal, one with which I am in some agreement, did not strike me as being a definition in terms of beliefs  (liberal beliefs v consevative beliefs).   I understood you to be talking about a frame of mind or a way of thinking.  The liberal is not afraid to look for truth where ever; the consevative, while not afraid, is fully content with what is considered to be traditional truth and the expansion thereof.   If I understand accurately, you could not tie a liberal to a position since a liberal has not position that he conisers to be infalliably true.  I would be looking for a listing of those who offer new thought contrasted to those who offer new defenses.
