Not picking on you, Judy. Just wanting to express some of my personal "concerns".

jt: I'm open Kay - and thank you.

Every person I've met who refuses to submit themselves to authority/teaching/leadership (and I don't mean government authority that goes against God) has gone off on weird beliefs and teaches them to others. I STILL am very leery about going to any fellowship due to what I call "cult-shock".

jt: As the saying goes Kay "been there, done that" - It is part of my own testimony that after God drew me to Himself on the island of Adak AK in the midst of a non authoritarian Christian Community that I was isolated from mainstream Christianity for 4yrs and was able to get a little grounding in His Word through small Bible Studies and independent study before arriving in the "lower 48" where I eagerly sought out fellowship/authority/teaching/leadership and it has taken the following 25yrs to unravel the religious bondage and understand what  happened to me.

One of my current clients is one of these types of people and I must say...he's a nutjob. He totally takes things out of context, especially relating to the role of men and women being submissive. He claims God Himself teaches him and no other. He's combative, argumentative, paranoid, and I would say borderline abusive. In essence, he's totally self-righteous and everyone but themselves are damned to hellfire and brimstone.

jt: Yes, there are all kinds out there in the spiritual marketplace and the one you describe above does not look or sound like Jesus to me.

I've seen this with several who call themselves street preachers. (No offense to ANY on here who may be street preachers...this is just MY experience with them.) In fact, the one I wrote about the other day was/is also a street preacher. They claim...the Lord told ME, the Spirit revealed to ME, blah, blah...and the discussion is CLOSED because it's the end-all 'cuz the Lord says so. Period.

jt: Not only the 'preachers' (street or otherwise) Kay. I've been in churches where believers I fellowshipped with would say the same thing and this would cut off any kind of dialogue, concern or correction on the part of others. I've seen ppl make such horrible and misguided choices reaping ongoing disaster in their own lives and those of their families. Satan never comes to church with horns and a pitchfork.

Even when whatever it is the Lord told them is in direct contradiction with what Scripture says. It's like they have blinders on, or something. It can be very exhausting having to work with them.  Kay

jt: Sure it is, the powers of darkness are draining and they will just wear us out.  I wasn't referring to anything like the above when I spoke of Jesus being the "ONE" teacher and I'm not saying there are no genuine under shepherds. However, I have learned to recognize the voice of the Master and today if I do not hear His Words coming through someone in a place of spiritual authority and if I do not see His love and caring in the way they relate to those around them then I will not submit to their authority/leadership in His Name.

Jesus said we have ONE teacher (Him) and the rest of us are brethren.  I see no point in exchanging one set of shackles for another.
