Nothing can be added to scripture but this is not the only purpose for prophecy.
Look at Ananias who warned Paul about going to Jerusalem and Phillip with all the daughter
who were prophetesses.  They weren't writing new scripture they were speaking for the
exhortation, edification, and comfort of the Church.. and this gift is still operational where
there is love and faith enough for the Spirit to be at liberty so that the spiritual gifts are
operational..
