Are all revisions of the KJV infallible or only the 1611 edition?
Authority for our preserved Bible, is not found in any human work it is to be found in God.
F.H.A. Scrivener a member of the 1881 RV revision, wrote The Authorized Edition of the English Bible (1611), Its Subsequent Reprints and Modern Representatives. Scrivner was not a fan of the KJV, in which a careful study reavealed a grand total of 400 textual changes
In 1611 there were two distinct printings at Oxford by the same printer. There are 100 textual differences between them. This is to be expected as printing was in it's infancy and was a most difficult task.
1629 edition of the Bible printed in Cambridge It was simply a correction of printing errors
72% of the approximately 400 textual corrections in the KJV were completed by the time of the 1638 Cambridge edition, So after a short 27 years we have corrected the printing errors
1762 and 1769 printings corrected spellings
The type style used in 1611 by the KJV translators was the Gothic Type Style. If you understand the Gothic type it is easy to read but can be a daunting task if you are unfamiliar with the font.S & F & U & V are "interchanged" Examples of such: also becomes alfo and set becomes fet. ever is euer These do not change the text.
Examples of Spelling changes
newe, feare, darke, and beare changed to new, fear, dark, and bear; again not comparable to the revised text of the new versions.
The Character of the changes
F. H. A. Scrivener, in the appendix of his book, lists the variations between the 1611 edition of the KJV and later printings. A sampling of these corrections is given below.
this thing - this thing also (1638)
shalt have remained - ye shall have remained (1762)
Achzib, nor Helbath, nor Aphik - of Achzib, nor of Helbath, nor of Aphik (1762)
requite good - requite me good (1629)
this book of the Covenant - the book of this covenant (1629)
chief rulers - chief ruler (1629)
And Parbar - At Parbar (1638)
For this cause - And for this cause (1638)
For the king had appointed - for so the king had appointed (1629)
Seek good - seek God (1617)
The cormorant - But the cormorant (1629)
returned - turned (1769)
a fiery furnace - a burning fiery furnace (1638)
The crowned - Thy crowned (1629)
thy right doeth - thy right hand doeth (1613)
the wayes side - the way side (1743)
which was a Jew - which was a Jewess (1629)
the city - the city of the Damascenes (1629)
now and ever - both now and ever (1638)
which was of our father's - which was our fathers (1616
Now compare the above cahnges to the following changes in the "NEWE" versions:
MATTHEW
1:25 "her firstborn" is omitted.
5:22 "without a cause" is out denying the sinlessness of Christ (see Mark 3:5)
17:21 Whole verse is left out
18:11 The whole verse is omitted
MARK
1:1 "the Son of God" is left out.
10:21 "take up the cross" is left out
11:26 The whole verse is removed.
13:14 "spoken of by Daniel the prophet" is dropped
16:9-20 Twelve verses are omitted. These verses are found in every known manuscript but two (the oldest of those two leaves a blank space where it belongs). They are found in all the Versions, quoted by the church fathers, and seen in the lectionaries of the church. There are many doctrines affected by the omission of these twelve verses. The resurrection of Christ is deleted. The great commission, baptism, eternal damnation and His ascension into Heaven are all taken out of the Word of God. Certainly the gospel does not end with "they were afraid." Some say the ending has been lost (see Dr. Ryrie's Study Bible) but that destroys the Bible Doctrine that God preserves His Word (see 1 Peter 1:23-25). The evidence is clear that these verses are original and to cut them out is to affect many doctrines of the Christian faith.
COLOSSIANS
1:2 "and the Lord Jesus Christ" is omitted. Along with the Father he is the source of grace and peace.
1:14 "through his blood" is left out.
2:11 "of the sins" is removed
1 TIMOTHY
3:3 "not greedy of filthy lucre" is omitted.
3:16 "God was manifest" is changed to "He was manifest." The reference is to Christ manifest in the flesh, etc. The MAJORITY Text tells us that this Christ was God. There are 252 copies of Paul's Epistles which have "God" and only 2 copies which have "he." The MINORITY Text leaves us in doubt as to who "he" is. The doctrine of the Deity of Christ is greatly harmed here by the corrupt text.
6:19 "eternal life" is changed to "that which is truly life."
Some doctrinal changes:
(KJB) Luke 24:51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

KJB) Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
NIV) Ephesians 3:9 and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.
KJB) I Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
(NIV) I Timothy 3:16 Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.
(KJB) Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

(KJB) I John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
(NIV) I John 3:16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers
KJB) Genesis 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

(KJB) John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
(NIV) John 3:13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven-the Son of Man.

Kevin, do you believe that the KJV is infallible? What does the word
"infallible" mean to you? Are all revisions of the KJV infallible or only
the 1611 edition?
Peace be with you.
David Miller.
