I'm a complicated person. It sounds like faith is another kind of work.

You might look at it this way Caroline.  Jesus is not only Savior.  He is also Lord.  If you accept Him, you must accept Him as both.  That is why He says you must die to self and live for Him.  That is why He asks of some,"Why do you call me Lord, when you will not do as I tell you".  All of us who are saved are saved by faith, but He measures our faith by how we follow.  It is impossible to have faith without being faithful.  It is impossible to be faithful without being obedient to His commands.  If He says that we should forgive, and we do not forgive, we are unfaithful, and our claim of being saved by faith is questionable.
Hope that makes sensee to you.  It is too simple for some to grasp.
