Once you have heard them both, it is easy to recognize the voices.

Caroline:
It's something Peter did not get even though he stood beside the living and breathing Jesus.
Matthew 16, Jesus asks Peter who he is and Peter says you're the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Jesus commends him and said "this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven."
A few short verses later, Jesus talks about his coming death and resurrection. Peter said, "Never Lord! This shall never happen to you". Jesus rebukes Peter saying, "Get behind me, Satan!"
So one incident, Peter is hearing from God. Then he is hearing from Satan.

Even after receiving the Spirit in Pentecost, Peter still goofs in his choices. In Acts, we learn that Peter sees a vision and goes to Cornelius house and recognizes that Gentiles have been accepted by God. Yet Paul complained about Peter avoiding Gentile believers when men from James came down from Jerusalem and so led Jewish believers astray.

Oh, I could go on forever of men who confused the voices of God and Satan. Ask anyone who has studied Martin Luther's writings! Yup, the guy who broke us free from the Catholic church with his sola fide and sola scriptura had major issues.

So, Terry, repent ye of this proud and false belief ere you also be dragged away into deception. None of us here are greater than Peter or Luther.

Love,

Caroline
