DAVEH: > Weren't there some Bible apostles who had not > seen Jesus face to face? e.g. Barnabas
Church history informs us that Barnabas was one of the seventy sent out in Luke 10. If this history is true, then Barnabas actually had better face to face credentials with Jesus than Paul did. Paul apparently only saw Jesus in visions. I think one of the reasons God chose to use Paul to have such a big ministry to us down through the ages was to illustrate forcefully how the apostolic gift continues throughout the church age. Here is someone who had never met Jesus and was not familiar with his earthly ministry, yet he is one who many hold to be among the greatest apostles because of his role in leaving us Scripture. As a figure of someone who came to know the Lord and became an apostle after Jesus had ascended into heaven, who better than Paul? He is an inspiration to all of us in the church age that we can know the Lord through the Spirit and become teachers, prophets, and apostles of Christ. DAVEH: > Perhaps they would be necessary for the perfecting > of the saints, for the work of the ministry until we > come in the unity of faith, as Paul suggested. (Eph 4:11-14) Yes, I agree with this. The problem in the LDS organization, however, is that you guys have only one prophet who is over twelve apostles, which is contrary to the Biblical model.
