One group of TTers believe God is holy, judge, righteous as well as love. They would probably say that if we do right, God loves us. If we do wrong, He still loves us but we come under His correction.

Another group of TTers believe God is love and his other characteristics flow out of His love. He is holy because all moral choices are choices to love. His wrath is His love opposed to us hurting ourselves or each other. God loves us whether we do right or wrong. He actively judges and corrects us when we err and His forgiveness is readily available when we repent.

In other words, there does not seem to be any difference between these two groups.

Oh wait...perhaps there is....

One group believes that anything off standard means we're not doing right and therefore under God's correction. There is a standard in every area of living and we have to come up to snuff. Since it is nearly impossible to come up to "Sermon on the Mount" perfection, we are always under some sort of chastisement. We are never good enough. Some would say we are no good at all and our righteousness is as rags in the eyes of our holy God.

Another group believes that the God who ate with sinners and prostitutes have a high tolerance for mayhem and brokenness. He hates what sin has done and is doing but He has taken care of that and will even more fully take care of that in the future. He is like a famous artist who delights in the scribbles of His children. Not only does He loves them but He likes them and enjoys them. We know we're not good enough but it doesn't matter because He is good. We know it is not us fixing ourselves or trying harder but He fixing us and working in us. Obedience is allowing Him to have His way in our lives.
