Job 21 Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.

This is just one of the DEVICES used:

PR 19:21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

Jer 18 And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.

Redefine so that you bear no responsibility
Claim a better "WAY"
Claim ignorance so that you bear no responsibility.
Claim they are suggestions we are under Grace you know.
Claim that is OLDE Testament that is not for me.
Claim you are not sure which are the Words of God.
Claim that you are not sure where the words of God are.

DT 30 And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.
"How can we we are not sure" (insert excuse here) The real problem is not that they can not but that they WILL Not hear! The Heart is desperately wicked, they decieve themselves.
If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul. For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that YE SHALL SURELY PERISH, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it. I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

2 Co 2 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

You're so right Kevin; I see #7 as the "biggie" because there is so much of it going on here all the time.  If we don't agree with God to start with then we're walking in darkness and denial and there is no place to go and no way to recognize that we have a problem.  One calls God's Law a  Pedogogue and now they have Christ so they don't need it; another says it's "gone" - "done away  with" .... and then there are the Joseph Smith followers .... Lord help us!!

The Law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul,
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple,
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart,
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes,
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever,
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether,
More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb,
Moreover by them is thy servant warned, is they servant warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.........  Selah!!

Izzy can define them if and when she wants - but in the meantime I've got a list (something else to argue about)
since lists are so important to you and JD .....
1. Recognize a problem
2. Take personal responsibility for it
3. Repent of it
4. Renounce it
5. Remove it
6. Resist it (because it will try to return)
7. Rejoice in being free

Judy that is how some would approach such a list but there are those that would approach it thus:

1. Recognize the list

2. Deny personal responsibility for it
3. Reject it
4. Renounce it
5. Remove it
6. Resist it (because it will try to return)
7. Redefine it
8. Rejoice in being free

Think what you want, Izzy, but what are you doing talking about "essentials" and "non-essentials," if in reality you can't define them?  "A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing personal opinion." Proverbs 18:2 - Bill

JD, only the legalists among you want a list.  The non-legalist Conservatives realize that if you have the Holy Spirit in your heart you dont need a list.  And if we gave you a list it would only give you something else to argue about.  Izzy

If you really have done #1, then #2 will become clear to you. J Izzy

Bill   -----------   the right-wingers will never give you a list.  But  maybe I didn't say "please."   so paaalleeese keep trying.

2 Tim 2: 16But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness,

17and their talk will spread like gangrene.

19Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness."

20Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor.

21Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.

22Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

23But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels.

24The Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged,

25with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,

26and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.
