I believe that is because there are now laws that prohibit the RCC hierarchy from burning people at the stake for reading scripture.  So they play along.  At least if they lead the Bible studies they can brainwash their flock into making scripture inferior to the  “Traditions of the Church”.  Izzy   There does seem to be a renaissance of Catholics reading and studying the bible. Some are even moving beyond prescribed prayer. Not many but it's a start. Perhaps they will reform the church.    Love,   Caroline
