Very true. Nevertheless, there are very few things that I believed when I was Christine's age that I would say that I was wrong about. Mostly, I was just very insecure in my understanding. I lacked confidence. My knowledge and wisdom has grown, and so my understanding has become more expansive, but the kernels of truth I knew at 19 were just as true and valid then as they are now. Mostly, I have added to that which I had at that time rather than gone through some revolution of understanding. Christine often comes to me with matters that concern her. She reminds me of myself very much at her age. Most of the time, she knows the right answer and sees correctly, but she lacks the confidence that what she knows is right. Same problem that I had at her age. I think our educational system makes it even more difficult when they buy into the idea that we cannot know truth. Christine and I went to see the new Star Wars movie. We both caught a line in the movie and rolled our eyes about it later as we discussed the movie. Anikan says to Obi-Wan, "If you're not with me, you're my enemy." Obi-Wan retorts, "only a Sith thinks in absolutes!" Obi-Wan had this attitude of, "ah-ha! Now I see you, you little devil you! You are thinking in absolutes!" Such thinking was the key that caused Obi-Wan to realize that Anikan had been deceived by the dark side and was now a sith himself. Notice just how much like the words of Jesus Christ this deceived man Anikan Skywalker's words were: Jesus Christ says: "He that is not with me is against me." (Mat. 12:30) Anikan Skywalker, now Darth Vader, the evil Sith, having been deceived by the dark side, says: "If you're not with me, you're my enemy." How does Obi-Wan know that Anikan has become a Sith. How? Because now he is thinking and talking like Jesus Christ, in absolute terms! Give me a break. [my eyes are rolling because such propaganda has become all too common in our culture] And so it goes that the spirits behind Hollywood try to deceive the public, and brainwash them into rejecting the teachings of Christ and adopt moral relativism and open unstructured thinking instead. Peace be with you. David Miller. p.s. See Lance, I really am trying to speak your language. This is twice now that I have adopted quotes from movies! I hope you appreciate the extra effort I take to do this. :-) ---------- "Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man."
