Most email readers probably can display it. They simply need to be setup with the right character set. I use Outlook Express and it displays the smiley faces fine. My font encoding uses Western European (Windows). It is set under Tools / Options / Read / Fonts. Set the encoding to "Western European (Windows)." I have noticed that somebody has some kind of script being put in some of the emails. My Anti-Spam software was moving them to my spam folder. In telling it not to do that, it eventually asked me if I wanted to turn off the rule that sends emails with script to the spam folder. It might be that someone's signature is doing it or some fancy html code they are inserting into the email. John, it could have been a coincidence that your system crashed when you were opening Izzy's email. Viruses usually start their work slowly and as they go they eat up memory. The most likely explanation is that your opening of her email caused your system to go get some more memory to display the email, but that memory was not available and your system crashed. In other words, the virus was probably doing its thing long before you opened her email. It use to be that only opening attachments could give you a virus, but with today's fancy email, scripts can be embedded to cause damage. Security settings should be set so that emails do not execute scripts willy-nilly in your system. Microsoft is constantly updating their email readers to close such security holes, but who knows what holes have yet to be found? Better just be careful with email containing script. Peace be with you. David Miller. p.s. Please excuse my "BORING" plain text emails, Izzy. :-) I like to think that writing in plain text helps me focus more on content and less on being pretty. :-) Besides that, plain text just shows up in the archives better and works better when Google indexes it. ---------- "Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man."
