This brings up a conversation I had with my sweet 13 year old stepdaughter Erin last night on the way home from the knitting shop.  I took her there for a lesson on how to knit, as I was having difficulty teaching her proper technique.  She was overjoyed at having caught on during the lesson, and couldn’t stop knitting enthusiastically all the way home! We were talking about how joyful it is just to create, and how women down through the ages, no matter how confined or busy they are with raising children and managing the home, have always desired to do needlework or create something in some fashion.  We knit, crochet, embroider, sew clothing, make quilts, cook new recipes, write stories, make gardens, etc.  We decided that we have a compulsion to create because it is such a joyful experience—both the creative process and then afterwards admiring and caring for what one has created. We decided that this is why God has created the universe, and in fact will never stop creating—the process must be endless! It must make Him so happy to create, just as it does us.  And we decided that we are really looking forward to an eternity of participating with Him in an eternal exploring, managing and admiring of His endless creation.  We will not have to worry about having nothing to do in heaven except lie about on clouds while strumming harps. It will be much more exciting and joyful than that. Izzy

No, I don't see being a Father as having anything to do with his motivation.

The question of "why" is not applicable.  He simply is the Father because he

created.

Not everyone he created is called to be in this same Father / Son

relationship, so this would not be the reason for why he created either.  I

think his reasons for creating have nothing to do with the title Father or

for replicating that relationship with others.
