Right, but with you I am afraid it is a PROFESSION not a POSSESION!
Which some professing have erred concerning the faith
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Talk is cheap, God's not interested in LIP SERVICE
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Verse two is what I am saved from, kevin.   Why would I want to neglect such a salvation?  my accounting is Jesus Christ !!   But I honestly do not think you understand that.  Wish I could say "oh, well,  but it's not important" but I can't.

How shall we escape if we NEGLECT so great a salvation?  Heb 2:3

Heb 2:2 the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;
HOW SHALL WE ESCAPE?

I really tire of proof-texting and knee-jerk biblical interpretation.  Heb 2: 2-3 presents two considrations:  1)  a just accounting for every transgression and disobedience  (v 2) and a salvation that avoids such an accounting!   How shall we escape (the judgments spoken of in vese 2)  if we neglect  ..  salvation?

His point  -- there is no escape apart from this great salvation.    Salvation avoids this circumstance  --  here in Hebews chapter 2>

 Personal effort is always and only out of response to God's saving activity.   It is "required" in the same way breathing is required to continue physical life.  All references of joint participation are to be viewed in this context.   That is the gospel message as I understand it.   To argue that my effort is actually required to secure my salvation is repulsive to me  --------   not to mention scary.

How shall we escape if we NEGLECT so great a salvation?  Escape what? God's wrath? (Heb 2:3)

Should we just kick back and wait for God to honor the incarnation? or should
we "run with patience the race that is set before us?" (Heb 12:1)

Either way it will take some effort ....
