What kind of words are you talking about, Lance? Of course you can ask us
to reconsider our language, but street preaching and this forum are two
different things. Ad hominem remarks can be used in street preaching as
they sometimes aid in gathering a crowd, but we discourage their use here
because they tend to drive the crowd away rather than gather them together.

I would prefer you not use acronyms either, no s*** or f*** or any such
abbreviations. We should be able to communicate just fine here without
dragging our minds into the gutter. Vulgar words and their acronyms are not
necessary. The very request to use them makes it clear to me that when you
suggest that everyone's life on TruthTalk is all the same in regards to
following Christ is completely wrong.

I'm not against expletives that are not swear words. Unfortunately, the
movie industry has made it so that these appear to be cleaned up versions of
swear words, but they really are not. They are expletives that might
generate an appropriate emotion.

For example, I used the phrase, "Ah shucks" to Bill to help convey the
tongue in cheek attitude that I had, something which I failed to communicate
in that post for which I had apologized. In other words, I didn't want him
to think that I was trying to fight on a point, but rather that I had a bit
of humor in what I was saying to him.

Using a swear word to try and effect this does something more than that. It
moves us into the gutter, into a different spiritual realm with evil spirits
who relish language of that sort. For me to say just one curse word,
whether it is because I hit my thumb with a hammer or because I want to
sound cool to others, would cross a line which is grevious to the Holy
Spirit of God. It would put me into fellowship with that which is not of
God.

No. As I have said many times before, resorting to ad hominem argumentation
is not sin. This guideline we encourage here is simply to make the list
better than it otherwise would be. Crossing the line is something all of us
have to consciously think about because our conscience is not going to
convict us about it. Why? Well, it is not sin. Jesus himself spoke this
way many times. [ But never on TruthTalk. :-) ]

Peace be with you.
