Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Does this mean that only the disciples may preach the gospel and baptize for the salvation of the lost?
Christine, do you believe that context must play a critical role in understanding the biblical message? I do. In fact,
I actually have a set of interpretative rules that I use in
my studies. I think it helps. But to answer your question;
the only disciples who were charged to go into all the world
were the apostles -- and they did just that!! Our "Great
Commission" is found in II Cor 5 (the entire chapter).Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Don't we see people lay hands and heal the sick today? Wouldn't this seem to indicate that those 11 disciples are not privy to the working of the Holy Ghost in their lives, but all who believe are meant to be used by the Holy Spirit?
Did you hear me saying that I do not believe that we
are used by the Holy Spirit? Certainly not my intent.
How many have you seen drinking poison and doing the
thing with snakes? Look Christine -- what does
your question above have to do with the rule of context?
Do you think every verse in the Bible that contains a
command applies to us today?
