A noble assignment. I am in San Diego with nothing but a lecture series of CD's. We do know that Christ spoke of sending the Comforter AFTER He ascended to the Father --- but His words were with them even as He spoke of His ascension. So, the Comforter and His words are not the same. This line of reasoning is in addition to the fact that the Spirit is apart of the truine Godhead and is much more than verbiage, whether inspired or not. He is God -- the words of Christ can never be construed to be of equal nature (to this Holy Spirit). At least that is how I see it. How do you see it?
Meaning? Christ is the author and finisher of our faith and our Faith. His words present us with that which is spiritual and that which is life giving. Without looking into the Greek -- this is what the passage means to me.

JD I would seriously like to know what you think Jesus meant by His statement. Iz
John 6:63
" It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

I always agree with Jesus. It seems the appropriate thing to do. I do not agree, however, with those who argue that such a statement means that His words and the Holy Spirit are the same thing.

I certainly do not equate the words of Christ with God The Spirit, that is for sure..

They work in sync John. Where there is no Word the Spirit has nothing to work
with; too many words of men and no Spirit is the "dead letter" - Jesus called His
Words Spirit and Life, why don't you believe Him?
