JD, we do understand your point.  We just don’t agree with it.  But do you understand our point? Do you understand that we (on this side of the argument) believe that it is not NECESSARY for a Believer to continue to live in a struggle with TWO entities (the Old and the New) constantly at war? Do you understand, at least, what we are trying to communicate? I am not asking if you AGREE; I am only asking if you really understand what we are trying to communicate to you on this issue—that the good news is that you can be free “indeed” of the Old Man? Please answer yes or no.  No arguing, please, but just let us know if we understand each other’s point at least that much.  Much appreciated! iz

My point is this: the old and the new man BOTH continue to exist.  That is a clearly stated reality in this passage.   What defines the old man?  Sin.   The difference between me and the unsaved is that I have a choice  -   a "second nature."  As relates to II Co 5:17  --  IN CHRIST our becoming new is a completed task.   Such does not mean that sin in our lives is non-existent.  We cannot understand if we forget the prophectical description of the new law   --   ".... I will forgive their iniquity and remember their sins no more"  (Jere 331:34.)   .   Consider also these words --  Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account"  (Ro 4:8).
