I can certainly say that there are times when I understood a scripture, and later understood it even better for one reason or another. I believe God has only one purpose for scripture, but as we grow we learn more deeply what the verses mean.  A baby Believer can believe the Word, but a mature Believer will get more out of it than a baby.  iz

Actually, Linda,, you have said something that is produndly the case.  If we can acknowledge that there may be one truth per passage but a multitude of purposes (in God's mind) for considering that scripture.   But, of course,  those of you who believe in inspired personal interpretation  (IPT) cannot agree because it screws up your theology.   I do not think Linda shares this position,  yet acknowledges God's work in her life, and that is why she can make this statement.

Amen, lets ALL get together!!!

Lu 4:41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God.

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

I am not interested in any sort of UNION with some of these birds!

Look at what it has done for the major denominations. They have,

"become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird."

Perhaps we should gather around that upon which we do agree, even on the most elementary levels.  iz

True Iz

But one must begin somewhere, so how about we agree at a surface level; we are not even there yet

and won't be so long as we have so many other 'mediators'.

I can agree with you that much, Lance, as there are ever-deeper meanings in scripture than we have yet scratched the surface of.  (How?s that for a dangling participle?)  I think we will spend eternity discovering those deeper meanings and will forever praise God for the miracles of His Word! iz

There most assuredly is. David Miller, Bill Taylor and John Smithson however, have demonstrated on numerous occasions, that it is NOT ALWAYS YOURS! To ward off yet another charge of blasphemy by David, I'll simply say that ALL INTERPRETATIONS OF SCRIPTURE ARE NEITHER EXHAUSTIVE NOR INFALLIBLE. That then, would include your interpretation(s) of Scripture would it not?

Meaning that everyone has their own Jesus and there is no standard of Truth?

The definitive answer to your query concerning 'your own Jesus' is...well...YES.
