No, Dean, you are mistaken. I never replied to a moderator comment. The only rule that governs discussions is the one against ad hominem statements. The moderator helps the discussion by warning participants when they stray into the ad hominem area. This warning has been done in the past by making a post with "Reprimand" in the subject line. In your case, you tend to enforce it by making a post with "Moderator Comment" in the subject line. The policy has been that TruthTalk members should not respond to such posts on the list. The Reprimand or Moderator Comment is by nature Ad Hominem itself in that it is corrective, being directed toward the person. To allow comments on the list would invite more ad hominem style arguments. Therefore, list etiquette is such that responding publicly to moderator intervention is considered inappropriate. List etiquette also attempts to keep subject lines pertinent to the discussion at hand. Many of the moderator comment threads left the moderator comment subject a long time ago. As moderator, you should try to help list participants keep a subject line that is pertinent to the discussion at hand. Many people lurk on the list and must skim threads of interest to them. Keeping the subject line pertinent is helpful to them. Such should be encouraged through reminders, not by list suspension. If you want to comment on it to the moderator, do so off list. If you think it appropriate to courtesy copy me or other TruthTalk members, please do so.
