Hi,

I'm wondering why there are two elements <child1> and <child2> for
h/vpanned?

In the schema, both are optional::

  hpaned = element hpaned {
      paned.attlist, paned.child1?, paned.child2?
 }

Thus one could write:

  <hpaned><child1>...</child1></hpanned>
or
  <hpaned><child2>...</child2></hpanned>
or
  <hpaned><child1>...</child1><child2>...</child2></hpanned>

But what is the difference between first and second entry?

Since we are on the way of toughing all XML files, we could take the
chance and change the schema here, to. I propose using::

  hpaned = element hpaned { paned.attlist, paned.child, paned.child? }

One element is required, since an empty h/vpanned is useless.
