I don't think it is too complicate to ask to the user to enter something like:
months=2, days=15, day=-1
As soon as there is a good help message and/or a documentation (that could
link to the dateutil one).

Why not in some cases it is the more generic and powerful way.

For sure we always thought that Tryton is a framework and not an
out-of-the-box application. But it is not in the same way as you think, it is
because we thought that it is not possible to match every needs so we build in
Tryton the basic concept that will be altered for the specific usage of a
company.
We care about the user interface and try to make it simple but not simplistic.
