The subtotal-kind-of-line-but-on-top has some benefits, when the use
case is, to be able to create kit-like assemblies directly on the sales
quotation. This is very useful in 'one off productions', when someone
wanted to place a sales quotation of a very individual setup of a
product. E.g. to build a custom computer system with CPU, RAM, HD, GPU,
MB ... and all services to combine the parts.

In the time of the sales quotation it is IMHO not always suitable to
have this assembly stored as a 'kit' in the product table. Because the
assembly is right now a singular quotation and must not necessarily
exist in reality. This kind of individual assemblies stored as a kit
in the product table, would mess the products overview up with a lot of
unused items over time. Maybe it is a good idea to store kits in a
separate table, because they are relevant on sale quotation level, at
least in this use case. When they are defined in a separate table, we
could use pre-defined kits for the sales quotation also.

When the sales quotation is accepted and ordered, the assembly should
become reality in this use case. At this time IMHO is a mechanism
needed, which generates 'something useful' out of the assemblies in the
sales quotation, something like 'kits' or 'BOMs'.

IMHO at this point we need some good decisions. We need to find out,
what are the main differences and similarities of the kit and the BOM
conceptions and should find viable ways to allow as many use cases as
possible without unneeded duplication.

Any ideas?
