Hello Tryton,
I was wondering what the status on cash management in Tryton is.
Especially the communication with the banks through EBICS [1], since I
am German and all German banks are now required to offer EBICS support.
That way Tryton (or any other ERP software) can/could communicate
directly with the banks, draw statements and initiate bank transfers.
I would also like to offer a couple thoughts on electronic cash
management. First of all I think cash management is a most sensitive
issue. So sensitive that in some companies the people that have
responsibility over the cash would rather manage it on computers
isolated from the rest of the network using dedicated software packages.
Yet this software could still be able to communicate with the erp
software used inside the rest of the company via files. In a company I
work for this is done, because their accounting software doesn't speak
EBICS, but it can produce DTAUS files, which other electronic banking
programs can read. Incidentally, according to this [2] (German) article,
EBICS consists in part of DTAUS and EDIFACT.
Cash management and bank statements could be of interest for companies
that have a high volume of bank movements. Like online retailers for
example. If someone was to design a Paypal module, I was wondering, if
other people in the Tryton project would like to put out some design
ideas first. For example a central cash management module, that the
payment provider modules (EBICS, Paypal, etc.) could then plug into.
Lastly I would love to see some nifty security features in a cash
management module. I did some data entry myself and one thing that
really bugs me is the checking of the bank account number. Because it
has to be 100% right. Otherwise the money is going someplace else. And
it can be very difficult to get it back. We will have much longer bank
account numbers (IBAN) in Germany soon and this task will get harder.
Anything to make that task easier and safer against errors would be much
appreciated. Wikipedia says [3] that IBAN will be mandatory from 2014
for all EU countries.
Thank you,
Malte
