I am not an accountant and I can only speak for Germany:

AFAIS there could be different approaches to handle a write-off, thus using
different accounts. Perhaps it would just be better to leave the account for
selection.

If you use a dedicated journal, the accounts *must* be the accounts of the
journal. Then the display of the account would only be informative and could
probably be dropped.
