I tried installing through the Synaptic Package manager that I had on my linux 
mint, and that had that as the most recent version. When I realized that there 
is a far newer one, I tried to upgrade to the newest one and ran into the error 
that I mentioned. I managed to get it working using virtualenv as mentioned in 
one of the other replies. I just installed everything from scratch in a brand 
new virtualenv.
