confirm,
had the same problem, but didn't figure out the connection,
just one new server, using ldap auth needed mysql and it didn't worked. I frustratedly switched their mysql services to another (oldold) machine, now after your hint mysql is running.
reconfigured ldap (similar to mikael bak's hint).
thanks, and I thought it was to do with the strange hardware running there (first thought).
problem didn't seem to be there in the previous (<2.2) tsl releases?
