Speaking of VMWare type programs, has anyone managed to get Trustix 3 Alpha to install on Microsoft Virtual PC 2004? The Viper installer fails to find any network cards (I'm using an Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard), and have configured MS Virtual PC to present the guest OS (Trustix 3) with the 2 onboard NIC's - Nvidia & 3Com. It fails to find them. I don't recall having this problem with Trustix 2.2. Is this an MSVPC or Trustix 3 Alpha problem? (I'm leaning toward MSVPC as Trustix 3 installs and runs perfectly (as a "real" install), on another stand alone machine).
Well, first of all: Try to avoid Linux in MSVPC and even more important in Microsoft Virtual Server. It has a very bad performance, and at least its not supported in Virtual Server (dont know about Virtual PC). The CEO of the company who created Virtual PC in the first place said (shortly before Microsoft bought them): "if you want to use Linux in a virtual machine, use VMware" :)
If you still want to use that product, i'd try the following steps:
- find out what virtual nic is presented to the guest system - try a knoppix or gentoo live cd, check if they can see a virtual nic - if they dont, check lspci -v - check if the virtual nic is usable
Did i mention that the TSL 3 alpha runs fine on VMWare Workstation, GSX and ESX Server? :)
Only problem is that the installer doesnt configure the second nic, but thats a viper problem...
